Email

Your list is yours 💊ðŸŧ. But it's old and
crusty 👎ðŸŧ. And there's Gmail's
promotions tab ☠ïļ from hell ðŸ‘ŋ.

super hard to get people to visit ðŸ˜Ē.

We need a new media channel where you can have your cake and eat it too.

Introducing
Webfeeds

Webfeeds are a stream of carousels built with the language of the web: HTML and CSS.

This means that many people already know how to make them. And they can contain any type of thing you've ever seen online: podcast players, shopping carts, even interactive games.

Webfeeds: Web pages that push to your following.

As a creator, your webfeeds live on your own website. Carousels go directly from your website to your followers device. There's no platform in the middle distributing them to your followers on your behalf.

Squares is an app for followers that opens portals into webfeeds.

Encourage your followers to download a webfeed reader app like Squares. This way, when you post a new carousel, a new portal will open automatically on their device that displays it.

Designed to be reshared.

Webfeeds don't need to be limited to your own carousels. Like any social network, they can reshare carousels from other webfeeds. They form a decentralized network where communal resharing is baked in.

Nobody wants to say this, but...

Pay-to-reshare is a cheat code to exploding on social media.

The fastest way to grow on Twitter (and other platforms) is to create good content, and then pay bigger accounts for reshares. Platforms hate this. They want you to buy their ads. But webfeeds are an escape hatch from ad-peddling overlords. So go after those resharing deals with fellow webfeeders, and grow your webfeed following to your hearts content.

Watch a growth expert discuss this.

Webfeeds can be algorithms.

There are no rules around how webfeeds come to life. They could be a stream of reshared pages, generated by an algorithm, and personalized to your interests. There is an open market for webfeeds which are actually content recommendation algorithms. And a growing swarm of algorithms looking to reshare your content.

Attract swarms of scrapers looking to promote you for free.

Scraper bots are your friends. They redistribute your content to places you don't expect. They're an unpaid marketing force.

The web was designed for scraper bots. This is why we have Google, Bing, and all other search engines. The web doesn't even work without them. Yet platforms do everything possible to kill them.

It's near-impossible to scrape content them. So instead of contributing content to the collective, they act like greedy hoarders. They do this to keep as much as attention on themselves as possible. They don't care that this comes at the expense of creators.

Webfeeds are open tech. Anyone can make a tool like Squares to view them

Are you a developer? If you know HTML, you already know how to build Webfeeds. Learn how they work in 5 minutes. They're really simple.

Webfeeds are the ultimate technology for engaging your followers.

Imagine the engagement rates of having an appointment booker within a LinkedIn post, a donation button in an Instagram story, a podcast in an email, or a 3D game in a Tweet. And imagine having all this personalizable for each of your followers.

All this and more is possible with webfeeds. Social media platforms will never allow you to do things like this, because doing so could compromise their ability to keep uesrs scrolling and addicted.

It's time for a
radical reformation
of social media.

Social media has done great things for civilization. But its darker side is a cancerous force. Platforms treat humans like cows to be milked for their time and attention, and actively stifle innovation. They could easily build webfeed-like power into their products. But they won't, because they exist to sell ads rather than spur greatness.

Is doesn't need to be this way.

Squares and Webfeeds are open-source initiatives that are on track to reignite greatness within humans. A great future is where we build our own digital identities on our own digital properties. Let's create the counter-force against an increasingly medival feudalist-style internet.

Let's exit serfdom and enter a new land where digital independence reigns supreme.
